Why Rochester?
The city of Rochester has some wonderful surrounding suburban areas to call home. They say "Everything is 20 minutes away" in Rochester thanks to the accessible design of our highways. You can enjoy all four seasons here from skiing and boating to festivals and wineries. Rochester has hosted many PGA golf events, we have Red Wings baseball games, the Americans hockey team and only an hour to Buffalo for the Sabres or a Bills game. We even have a few local race tracks and Watkins Glenn isn't far. We have plenty of nature trails and bike routes along the canal, and only an hour to Letchworth State Park or Niagara Falls. Rochester is known for the "Garbage Plate" and great BBQ but there are a host of fresh farmers markets, vegan and vegetarian specialties and plenty of upscale dining and nightlife. We have access to theaters, museums, universities, highly regarded hospitals, historic areas and some great school districts. Sounds too good to be true but Rochester is indeed a hidden gem. Sure, there's snow and ice, but there's really no severely destructive weather or deadly creatures hiding in swamps, we just need some snow tires. Every city has bad areas, but for the rest of us, the Rochester area is an expanding wealth of success, development, community and entertainment. The Rochester Experience:
Port of Rochester, Charlotte. If boating or fishing is your thing, you're in the right place! Rochester offers many ports and marinas to enjoy life on Lake Ontario. You can make it to Toronto in 2-3 hours. Plenty of dock-side dining and a beautiful view of the eagles in Sodus Bay. Bristol Mountain, Canandaigua. The Rochestear area has an abundance of ski resorts! Lilac Festival at Highland Park. You could attend a festival almost every weekend in Rochester. The Lilac Festival is held in the beautiful Highland Park and starts the spring off with an abundance of blooms, vendors and music. Corn Hill, Jazz Fest and Park Ave Fest are a few of the other notable yearly events and the Renaissance Faire in Sterling is just over an hour away. Heron Hill Winery, Canandaigua Lake. Just south of Rochester lies the beautiful Finger Lakes region known for their stunning scenery and wineries. Wildwood Golf Club, Rush. You'll find sprawling courses and country clubs scattered throughout the suburbs. The 2023 PGA Championship will be hosted at the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford. Letchworth State Park. Even inside the city borders, you'll find beautiful parks to take a stroll or a bike ride in Rochester. Just to name a few that are "20 minutes away," there's Mendon Ponds, Highland Park, Eastman Park, Powder Mills and Seneca Park. If you're up for a day trip you can visit Niagara Falls in Buffalo or take a balloon ride in Letchworth State Park. Seneca Park Zoo, Rochester. Have some fun with the kids at Seneca Park Zoo or take a trip to Six Flags at Darien Lake for a day of rides or a concert. Rochester is also home to the Strong Museum of Play which has an indoor butterfly garden, historic toys and they rotate featured exhibits so there's always something new. George Eastman Museum, Rochester. Rochester is home to many historical landmarks. George Eastman founded the Eastman Kodak Company. Tours and lavish public events are hosted in the house. Mount Hope Cemetery is a great place to visit for history buffs and you'll find plenty of old cathedrals, churches and history when you start searching! Tony D's, Rochester. But most importantly, what's for dinner? Rochester is known for the "Garbage Plate," but that absolutely does not define the city's dining. If you know where to look, you can find high end cuisine and hearty homestyle cooking in comfortable upscale atmospheres.
